PPL(A)
Virage Aviation provides full flight training towards Private Pilot's Licence (PPL-A). We have a team of experienced instructors at our well-equipped training facility at Beccles Aerodrome.
We also provide trial flights with an instructor for those who wish to have an experience or take the controls.
We have a variety of training aircraft available to students. A Cessna 150, Cessna 172 , a PA28 and a recently added Diamond DA40.
Beccles Aerodrome is an excellent choice when learning to fly. The facilities including a refurbished runway, cafe / restaurant and access to unrestricted class G airspace with dramatic coastal views. Student pilots can easily access nearby airports and airspace for their cross-country training in the wide un-congested training area of East Anglia.
Above all, we offer a warm welcome and friendly service together with extremely competitive rates for training.
PRIVATE PILOT LICENSE
The Private Pilots Licence is a CAA qualification that allows you to fly a plane for your own personal use.
Here at Virage we offer full training to gain your PPL. Our experienced team of instructors are here to help with all aspects of training, from your first flight right up to your test. We use our Cessna 150 as our main training machine.
Requirements for gaining a PPL.

A minimum of 45 hours flight time is needed to complete the course.

Of the 45 hours at least 25 must be dual instruction. A further 10 hours must be flown solo, including 5 hours cross-country flight landing at 2 different airfields.

A Class 2 medical is required to obtain a license.

Students must be 17 years of age to qualify for their PPL. (You can start flight training at any age but your training hours will only count towards the licence from the age of 14. You are permitted to take a flight test at the age of 16, however you can only hold the licence and carry passengers at the age of 17)

There are 9 written exams needed for the course. These are mainly self study however our instructors are available to help with any extra ground school when needed. We stock all Pooleys study material which is available to purchase on site. The exams needed are:

You will also need to take a practical radio exam prior to your skills test - This is also done in house.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET MY LICENSE?
A minimum of 45 hours need to be flown to obtain your license. However the time required to reach the necessary standard to pass varies between each student. Things like cost, Weather & time can effect the length of your training. We can tailor your training plan to fit your needs - Just let us know what works best for you!
WHEN CAN I TRAIN FOR MY PPL(A)?
Training is based at Beccles Aerodrome. Their operating hours are 08:00 - 18:00 Summer & 08:00 - 16:00 Winter. The flight training takes place 6 days a week. If available we can book you in for the same day & time each week.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I HAVE MY LICENSE?
The possibilities are endless! Some people take conversion courses onto more complex aeroplanes & then train become commercial pilots. Some turn to Aerobatics & air racing or some just fly purely for fun! Remember once you have your license you are able to take non paying passengers!
CAN I SELF FLY HIRE FROM VIRAGE AVIATION?
Virage Aviation offers self fly hire of our Cessna 150, Cessna 172 and PA28.
If you have a license yet didn't train through Virage we are able to offer SFH however a flight check with our instructors will be required prior to any hire agreement.
